Urban Couture: The Natural Beauty
Posted on September 03 2015
Concrete is an incredible material and it is becoming popular in the creation of home accessories. I take a look at Urban Couture, embracing the concrete trend.
Gone are the days where it was banished only to the world of construction, concrete is here and it is making its way into the comfort of our own homes via accessories, furniture and lighting. A brand to salute this movement and acknowledge the true beauty of this fascinating material is Urban Couture.
Created by Interior stylist Katriarna and her partner Thomas, the brand draws from the beauty of European style with particular references to Scandinavian and Italian furniture design. One of their latest releases is the concrete range, a collection of lighting, storage and candle holders cast in concrete and harmonised with the addition of leathers and metallics.
These accessories look fantastic against that classic Scandinavian monochrome backdrop. By using simple tones in your surroundings, such as white with black definition, it allows you to colour and add character through your accessories, amplifying the beauty of natural materials textures which create focal points throughout a space.
Personal favourites in the collection have to be the concrete and brass/copper candle holder station. The design looks amazing with contrasting black candles and the elegant copper and brass finishes really work well against the concrete. Another favourite is the Oliver concrete table lamp in mint and in copper. I love how a simple stripe of material and colour can soften a design, creating a unique object, full of character and charm.
With far too many fantastic accessories and designs to possibly feature in one article, I would recommend checking out the full Urban Couture collections over on their website. Divided into room categories, styles and services, the Urban Couture website is a fantastic and easy way to discover items, use their handy design services and get inspired to recreate these incredible looks!
