Lane: The Modern Home

Discovering the bold and characterful designs from Lane, including graphic style screen prints and the popular Twin Tone lampshades.

I always find it fascinating to learn how a brand has developed into what we see today. Discovering its past, the designers inspiration and how concepts and ideas are developed into reality is just as important as the finished product itself. I was lucky to come across Lane, a modern and vibrant brand created by Joff and Ollie, discovering that their history has given them a different perspective when it comes to designing accessories for the home.

Bright and bold designs such as the "Circles Red and Blueprint" and "Twin Tone Lampshade in Red & Stone" have stemmed from their experience working as graphic designers, giving them a fascinating and unique platform in design to create products that whilst bold and vibrant, have a simple elegance, making them suitable for a variety of different area and styles in the home.

Each piece of artwork has been hand screen printed onto textured paper, giving it a high quality and luxurious finish. A favourite quality of mine is that the paper has been produced from one of the oldest paper makers in the Lake District, mixing modern design with traditional values to create a unique and inspiring product. It was the design of the lampshade that first attracted me to Lane, such a simple concept though rarely seen in the home. Having an additional colour on the inside makes a huge difference to the light with some surprising results. The colour can add a soft tone that changes the look and feel of the room. Being seen from different angles of the room, the inside colour can also match a secondary colour used in the rooms decoration to match accessories and link in features. Lane products are a fantastic way to create a vibrant feature or focal point to a room. Many of home the lampshades have been teamed up with pieces of art to suggest excellent ways of working accessories into a living space. This is a great way to start a colour theme in a room and with a large range of art prints and lampshades to choose from, there will be a theme to suit all!
